Project summary

Unitywater has invested $58.1 million in upgrading the Burpengary East Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to cater for increasing residential, business and industrial growth within the Burpengary catchment area.

The upgrade is part of a major infrastructure capital works program designed to fulfil the Unitywater charter to protect our customer’s health and the environment by operating and maintaining the infrastructure for the effective collection, transport and treatment of sewage.

This project has brought about a number of community benefits, including improved odour management; improved quality of treatment; less impact on the environment; increased capacity to cater for growth; and substantial cost savings through the reduction in energy use.

  • Improved quality of treatment particularly during periods of high flow which will have a positive impact on the health and water quality of the Caboolture River;

Completion Construction commenced in January 2009 and was completed in October 2011.
Funding $58.1 million.

Burpengary is experiencing population growth in its residential, business and industrial areas. The Burpengary East Sewage Treatment Plant Augmentation project is part of Unitywater’s commitment to providing first-class water supply and sewerage infrastructure and services to the Moreton Bay region.

 

Project Details

The Burpengary project works involve a complete mechanical and electrical refurbishment to ensure the treatment plant operates more efficiently and with greater reliability.

On completion, the project will produce cutting-edge standard effluent and be able to supply 3ML of recycled water per day.

The $58.1 million upgrade of the Burpengary East Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) was officially launched by Unitywater Chairman Jim Soorley on Tuesday 11 October, 2011.

More than 60 stakeholders attended the official proceedings, with a number of local residents also taking part in a free tour of the treatment plant on the day.
