Who is Unitywater and who owns us?
Unitywater is one of three distributor-retailer businesses established by the Queensland Government under the South East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail Restructuring) Act 2009 as part of the water reform program. We provide safe, reliable water supply and sewerage services to the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay regional council areas.
Unitywater is not a private business. Rather, it is a statutory authority jointly and wholly owned by Moreton Bay Regional Council and Sunshine Coast Council and is governed by an independent board, appointed by the two Councils. The Board makes sure Unitywater most efficiently and effectively delivers its services to our customers.

What does Unitywater do?
Unitywater provides water supply and sewerage services to a population of around 675,000 people (residents in total) in the Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast regions, across an area of 5,138 km2. Our core services include:
- purchasing water from the Queensland Government-owned South East Queensland Water Grid Manager;
- delivering a safe and reliable water supply to residents and businesses;
- collecting, transporting, treating and disposing of sewage;
- providing trade waste services to businesses;
- operating, maintaining and upgrading water supply and sewerage infrastructure and assets, including water supply and sewerage networks and sewage treatment plants;
- providing, where possible, a specialised recycled water service to businesses and residents;
- operating a 24-hour emergency response service;
- providing customer service, including a dedicated call centre and counter services; and
- issuing and managing accounts for residential and business customers.
Under its water reform model, the Queensland Government’s Water Grid is still responsible for managing:
- bulk water assets, including dams, weirs and other water sources;
- associated infrastructure, such as bulk transport (regional inter-connecting pipelines); and
- water treatment (including fluoridation plants).
