Albatross Avenue Reservoir

Project summary

Unitywater will be building a new 8,750,000 litre (8.75ML) reservoir in Nambour West, to ensure a smarter and more sustainable water network.

The Albatross Avenue Reservoir is part of our long term plan to future proof the water needs of our community, making sure you have access to reliable and quality drinking water.

This is just one of the many water infrastructure projects we are delivering across the region that will help meet the needs of the Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast region.

Project Background

Sunshine Coast Regional Council acquired the site in Albatross Avenue, Nambour West many years ago for a new water reservoir.
Unitywater has since confirmed this as the best location to deliver quality drinking water to the community while ensuring the cost effective and efficient operation of the water network.

Project Details

As the site takes advantage of the natural height of the area, water can be gravity fed into the system, reducing the reliance on pump stations to distribute water to homes and businesses.

The reservoir will be approximately 38 metres in diameter and 9 metres high with an 8.75ML capacity.  Around 300m3 of concrete will be used to create the floor of the reservoir and 275m3 for the walls.

The slab and walls will be post tensioned. This means the steel strands embedded in the slab and walls are pulled tight to achieve a stronger and more stable structure.

As part of the project, new pipelines will also be installed along Albatross Avenue, Rosella Place and Pearl Parade, to connect the new reservoir into the existing water network.

Once constructed and operating, the reservoir will have the capacity to supply water to approximately 16,000 Sunshine Coast residents.

Working with the Community

Unitywater is committed to working with the community on this project to ensure better outcomes for residents.

Opportunities will be provided for the community to work with us on how the reservoir will look and the area is landscaped.

    Did You Know
  • Approximately one pool in every 20 has a leak! Even a minor leak can result in a major water loss.  Under pressure a tiny leak can lose more than 3000 litres a day.
