Project Background

The site on Harbour Hill, Kuluin was acquired by Sunshine Coast Regional Council for a new water reservoir and is next door to an existing water reservoir.

Unitywater conducted survey and geotechnical investigations to confirm the site as the best location to deliver quality drinking water to the community. By building the reservoir here we can ensure the water network can operate efficiently and cost effectively.

The area takes advantage of the natural height of the area, which allows water to be gravity fed into the system. Using gravity reduces the reliance on pump stations to distribute water to homes and businesses.

Project Details

The reservoir will be approximately 42.5 metres in diameter and 11 meters high with a 14.2ML capacity.  During construction, roughly 390m3 of concrete will be used to create the floor of the reservoir, with 330m3 used for the walls.

The slab and walls of the reservoir will be post tensioned.  This means the steel strands embedded in the floor and walls are pulled tight to achieve a stronger structure than conventional reinforced concrete.

Once in operation, the reservoir will have the capacity to supply water to approximately 27,000 local residents and businesses.

Working with the Community

To ensure better outcomes on this project for residents, Unitywater is committed to working with the community.

    Did You Know
  • Approximately one pool in every 20 has a leak! Even a minor leak can result in a major water loss.  Under pressure a tiny leak can lose more than 3000 litres a day.
