Excessive use
If your household uses more than 1200 litres per day, or 300 litres per person (without a valid reason for the usage level), you might be put on the Residential Excessive Water Use program run by the Queensland Water Commission (QWC).
We will advise you of your consumption levels and monitor your ongoing usage. If you continue to use excessive amounts of water without justification, the QWC may impose a penalty on your household including a fine and a ban on outdoor watering.
There are certain instances where we may agree to an exemption on your property, for example, a high number of people residing at the property, a water leak or for medical reasons.
Outdoor water ban
Under an outdoor water ban, residents of the property are not permitted to use town water outdoors, with the exception of topping-up pools and spas and washing vehicles in accordance with the restrictions.
See the Queensland Water Commission website for the latest restrictions.
