Trade Waste Policy
Unitywater is introducing a new, streamlined Trade Waste Policy (PDF) to ensure we comply with current state legislation and have a consistent approach to trade waste management across the Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast regions.
This is part of our ongoing efforts to standardise fees, charges, categories, permits and approval processes for our trade waste customers. Unitywater is also committed to minimising the environmental impact of trade waste, with greater emphasis on user-pays.

From January 2012, the following changes will apply to Unitywater’s Trade Waste Policy:
New Trade Waste-registered business
- New permits and agreements will be issued directly to trade waste generators, not property owners.
- Trade waste generators will be responsible for trade waste output, fees and charges.
- There will be 3 standardised categories of trade waste customers: high risk, medium risk and low risk depending on the level of risk associated with the waste.
Existing Trade Waste-registered Business
- Changes will be phased in over 18 months starting in January 2012.
- Existing customers will change over to the new policy when their existing permit or agreement is renewed.
- Generators who currently hold a trade waste permit (businesses located in the former Caloundra and Caboolture shires) will not be required to apply for a new permit.
- Generators whose trade waste permit is currently issued to the property owner (businesses located in the former Pine Rivers, Redcliffe,
Maroochy, Noosa shires) the generator will need to apply for a permit.
If you are an existing trade waste customer, Unitywater will write to inform you of any impact on your business and action required.
Unitywater has also developed a Trade Waste Management Plan (PDF) which outlines the “day to day” management of trade waste discharges to the sewer.
