Residents in Marcoola, Yaroomba, Mount Coolum, Coolum, Peregian Springs and the Peregian Breeze estate no longer need to limit their outdoor water use.

A large water main in Finland Road, Bli Bli, which connects to reservoirs that service the above areas, broke on Friday 18 January.

We completed repairs, however reservoir storage levels dropped during the break and it took some time for the reservoirs to reach closer to normal levels.

Latest updates

We are pleased to report that there is no longer a need for residents to limit their outdoor water use. Our reservoirs have reached a sufficient level, however they are still lower than normal so please use water wisely. If levels drop again, we may need to ask you to limit outdoor use again.

We would like to thank everyone for being so patient and understanding while we've worked through this incident.

Tuesday 29 January, 4.40pm

Our reservoir levels have increased over the past week however storages are still not back to normal operating levels. Therefore please continue to limit outdoor water use where possible. We will review the situation daily and let you know when anything changes.

As all properties have water, we will be closing our bottled water collection point at Peregian Springs Ridges Recreation Club at 6pm today (Tuesday).

We are also stopping the tankers which have been helping supplement the water supply in our reservoirs until now.

Thank you to everyone for your continued patience and understanding as we work through this incident.

Monday 28 January, 5pm

We still need our understanding customers in the affected areas to limit outdoor water use as well as any non-essential indoor use. You are helping us tip the reservoir storage level balance in your favour! But with this hot weather, we need to make sure we’ve got enough water to supply to you while we manage the water main incident at Bli Bli.

We understand this is inconvenient and we sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding. We will be reviewing our conservation measures in the new week and will continue to keep you fully informed of all we’re doing.

Engineering and planning work on the bypass pipe installation is continuing behind the scenes. This week, we'll take delivery of 94 pipes which will be welded together on site to create one long pipe measuring 1.8kms.

This pipe will bypass the original water main which broke twice this month and will keep water flowing to the above areas while we investigate a longer-term solution. Our main aim is to minimise or avoid disruptions to customers at all times. Thank you for your ongoing patience while we work on this challenge.

Sunday 27 January, 5pm

Please continue to limit outdoor water use, including sprinklers, and limit non-essential indoor use. Reservoirs that supply the affected areas are refilling slowly thanks to our tankering and network adjustments – but this is happening at the same time as residents are using water on this hot long weekend.

All residents in these areas have continuous water supply at their properties. To help affected customers, Unitywater has made bottled water available for collection at Peregian Springs Ridges Recreation Club, 222 The Avenue, Peregian Springs.

Preparation of the bypass pipe site has been completed ahead of schedule. Further engineering and preparation work is continuing in the background as we get set for works to ramp up on Tuesday.

Sunday 27 January, 10am

We’re continuing works to install a new section of pipe to bypass the original water main at Bli Bli which broke twice this month.

The bypass pipe will keep water flowing to the affected areas while we take the original pipe offline so we can investigate a longer-term solution.

Minimising or avoiding any customer disruption is our priority, as is the safety of our staff and contractors. Thank you for your patience while we work on this challenge.

Some residents have asked us about the quality of the water supply. Please be assured that the water is completely safe to drink and there is nothing to be concerned about. The water supply meets Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and its quality has not been compromised at all.

Some residents have asked about their laundry. Please go ahead and do your clothes washing – we don’t want anyone to compromise hygiene. Please continue to limit outdoor water use where possible. Thank you for your continued assistance and patience.

Please continue to limit your outdoor water use and any non-essential indoor water use where possible.
Our priority is keeping a continuous water supply to all customers in these areas and your ongoing efforts are helping us to do this – thank you.

We understand the tankers that are helping top up our reservoirs have caused some noise issues for nearby residents and we sincerely apologise for this. The tankers are necessary to help avoid a significant water outage to you.

Everyone has water to their properties but bottled water is still available for free at Coolum State High School if you wish to collect some.

We’ll have further updates tomorrow. Thank you again for your patience and assistance.

Wednesday 23 January, 10.30am

Overnight we made further adjustments to the network in response to reports of lower water pressure from some customers in Marcoola. We are pleased to report that water pressure continues to improve.

We are mindful of the Australia Day long weekend approaching and are carefully monitoring both our reservoir levels and the water network to ensure a continuous water supply to all properties over this period.

We are continuing to use tankers to help top up the reservoirs and we apologise for any noise associated with this important activity to keep water flowing to all properties.

At this stage, we expect that residents will need to continue to limit water use for at least the rest of this week. We apologise again for the inconvenience and will continue to provide updates. Thank you for your assistance – it is helping greatly.

Tuesday 22 January, 5pm

Please continue to limit your outdoor water use and any non-essential indoor water use where possible. Your efforts are being noticed and are appreciated.

Tuesday 22 January, 12.30pm

We can report today that our reservoirs are progressively filling up. However it will take a number of days to reach normal operating levels.

Overnight, we made some careful adjustments in the network to help push more water into the reservoirs and we can see that the levels are improving.

Everyone in Marcoola, Yaroomba, Mount Coolum, Coolum and Peregian Springs has water to their properties but please continue to limit your water use where possible to allow the reservoirs to keep refilling. Thank you again for your help.

Monday 21 January, 6pm

The pipe in Bli Bli that has caused the current issue is about four years old. Due to its young age and two breaks in a short period of time, we are concerned with the condition of the pipe and are investigating this as a priority.

Our focus to date has been on repairing the pipe and ensuring you have a continuous water supply. Your assistance to limit your water use has helped greatly with this – thank you.

Everyone in the affected area has water but we need your help to keep limiting water use where possible for at least the next few days as we need to continue increase the levels in our reservoirs.

Bottled water is still available at Coolum State High School overnight tonight and tomorrow, should you wish to collect some.

We apologise again for the inconvenience and will continue to keep everyone updated.

Monday 21 January, 4pm

The large water main in Bli Bli that broke a couple of weeks ago (and services Marcoola, Yaroomba, Mount Coolum, Coolum and Peregian Springs) burst again on Friday. The second break was 200 metres away from the initial break location.

Over the weekend, repairs were completed but we still need your help as our reservoirs progressively fill up again. Please continue to reduce your outdoor water use and non-essential indoor water use. To help avoid further breaks, we have reduced the pressure in the water main, which means the reservoirs are taking a bit longer than usual to fill to normal operating levels.

We thank you again for your continued efforts, which are greatly helping us to maintain a continuous water supply to all customers in this area.

Monday 21 January, 7am

Please continue to limit your outdoor and non-essential indoor water use today - your assistance is helping and is greatly appreciated. We are continuing to provide free bottled water to affected residents, which can be collected from Coolum State High School, Havana Road East, Coolum anytime today.

Thank you for your continued assistance to limit your water use. Bottled water will be available for affected residents to collect for free from Coolum State High School throughout this evening.

Sunday 20 January, 1pm

Unitywater is asking residents in Marcoola, Yaroomba, Mount Coolum, Coolum and Peregian Springs to limit their outdoor water use, such as garden watering and car washing, until further notice. They are also asked to limit any non-essential indoor water use, such as clothes washing and house cleaning.

A large water main in Bli Bli that supplies this area broke recently and it was an extremely complex and challenging repair. We are revisiting the repair as subsequent investigations and monitoring have revealed further issues with the condition of the pipe.

We are using water tankers to top up our reservoirs and help ensure a continuous water supply to these areas. As a result, some residents may be experiencing additional traffic and noise from these trucks.

We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate residents’ understanding and patience as we continue this important activity.

To help minimise water use, we have set up a bottled water collection point for affected residents to collect water for free at Coolum State High School, Havana Road East, Coolum.

We will be posting regular updates on this page on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
