A sewerage main broke earlier today and flows have entered the creek.

Unitywater Network Operations Manager Martine Watson said as soon as the utility was aware of the break, a crew attended immediately to respond to the incident.

“We have isolated the broken pipe to help prevent further flows into the waterway but we’re advising the community to keep out of the water for their own health and safety,” she said.

“We believe the break is a result of the current wet weather and we are continuing investigations while we work to repair the pipe.

“The pipe is four metres below ground so it will require deep excavation.

“We have a dedicated team working to resolve this as soon as possible and have placed signage to warn people to stay out of the water. We will continue to monitor the situation and will remove the signage when it’s safe for swimming again. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
