Unitywater Executive Manager Strategic Engagement, Joshua Zugajev, said Unitywater was committed to a healthy, thriving and hydrated community – powered by tap water.
“Every time you refill your reusable water bottle, you help reduce single-use plastics from ending up in landfill or our precious waterways,” Mr Zugajev said.
“And it can save you money too, with an average litre of bottled water costing around $4, which is about the same cost as 1,000 litres of safe, reliable and sustainable tap water,” he said.
“In addition to the water Unitywater distributes to homes, businesses and public spaces across Moreton Bay, the Sunshine Coast and Noosa, you can also show up to fill up for free at one of 16 community events we will be attending with our Drink Tap van over the next six months.”
Mr Zugajev said the utility’s Drink Tap van made it easy for people to show up and fill up.
“In the past 18 months the Drink Tap van has visited 58 local events, helping the community stay hydrated while avoiding the equivalent of more than 120,000 single-use plastic water bottles,” he said.
The message to ditch single-use plastics and choose to fill up at the tap is supported by Unitywater’s long-term partner, Sunshine Coast Lightning, with shooter Cara Koenen saying she brought her water bottle with her whenever she left the house.
"At Lightning, showing up means being prepared on and off the court, and taking a reusable water bottle and filling up with tap water is a simple way everyone can show up for themselves and the environment," Ms Koenen said.
