Stop toilet and sewer problems

Pipe blockages usually start to happen long before you realise it, with the blockage becoming worse and worse over time. But there are some simple ways to avoid blockages, saving you money on plumbing bills and helping you to avoid messy clean-ups.

The best way to stop blockages and overflows is to make sure to only ever flush the three Ps:

  1. (Toilet) Paper
  2. Pee
  3. Poo
Find out how to stop problems occurring

Wet wipes belong in the bin

Wet wipes do not break down like toilet paper when flushed.

Even wipes that are labelled "flushable" definitely are not!

Wet wipes block pipes. Please put them in the bin, not down the toilet.

Only ever flush the three Ps: pee, poo and (toilet) paper.

Motorhome and caravan dump points

Most caravan parks in the Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast regions also have disposal points for travellers, however fees may apply and we recommend you check ahead with these facilities.

Unitywater offers a number of black and grey water disposal points for portable toilets or porta-potties from boats/motorhomes/caravans, including cassette systems.

What happens after you flush?

You probably don’t usually think about what happens after you flush the toilet, wash your clothes or take a shower. All this water (as well as other things like dirt, washing powder and soap) flows down the drain and into the sewerage pipes connected to your property.

As well as removing and treating sewage for you, we build, maintain and replace the sewer pipes, sewage pump stations, sewage treatment plants and other sewage infrastructure.

Bin your buds

Cotton buds, tampons and pads are
a major cause of toilet blockages

Toilet training? Remember the 3Ps

Only pee, poo and toilet paper
should be flushed down your loo

Wet wipes are rubbish

Always put them in the bin
(even if it says they’re flushable)
