There are 18 positions available across a variety of disciplines, with opportunities for business, ICT, engineering, science, communication and finance students or graduates.
Unitywater Executive Manager People, Culture and Safety, Kenan Hibberd, said the program, running from November through January, served as an early career pathway for university students looking for real-world experience to complement their studies.
“Our Vacation Work Program has been running for 12 years and has provided an excellent opportunity for those across our service region, who are coming to the end of their university studies, to gain valuable experience from an organisation offering career opportunities close to home,” Mr Hibberd said.
“This year will be our largest intake yet, widening the reach of the talent search and highlighting the vast nature of opportunities that exist in the water industry.”
Ten team members from last year’s program went on to secure ongoing employment with the utility, joining others who’ve established their career at Unitywater, like permanent, fulltime Infrastructure Planning Engineer Harry McLean.
“I was finishing my Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at University of the Sunshine Coast when I discovered Unitywater’s program, which I found while exploring ways to gain some real-world experience before graduating,” Mr McLean said.
Following the Vacation Program, Harry went on to join the Graduate Program for 18 months before commencing his current role.
“Since starting my journey with Unitywater at the end of 2022, I’ve gone on to work on some exciting, meaningful projects, including the delivery of an innovative environmental trial – planting seagrass to test its effectiveness in reducing nutrients in local waterways.”
Unitywater actively encourages candidates with all abilities and diverse backgrounds to apply. Applications close Thursday 11 September 2025. Visit our Careers page to apply.
