Unitywater Executive Manager Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions, Mike Basterfield, said identifying and replacing water meters was part of a $400 million program to renew and enhance the water and wastewater network to proactively maintain safe, reliable services.

“Factors that indicate a meter is ready to be replaced includes their age, and where higher amounts of water have flowed through it over time – particularly in homes that have pools, large gardens, irrigation systems or a history of water leaks,” Mr Basterfield said.

“There is no additional fee for the replacements which ensure we can provide exceptional service, including keeping meter readings and bills as accurate as possible.”

Mr Basterfield said residents having their meter replaced will receive a notification card in their letterbox at least 48 hours beforehand, and the work typically takes around 30 minutes to one hour, so service interruptions are short.

“Our crews are always on the job for you, and after the work is complete, they’ll pop a card in your letterbox with a recording of the water consumption measured by the old meter,” he said.

“We encourage customers to keep this reading for reference and to cross-check it when you receive your next water and wastewater bill from Unitywater.”
