Unitywater Executive Manager Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions, Mike Basterfield, said works would include upgrades to a Burpengary wastewater pump station and wastewater pipes in Burpengary, Kippa Ring, Strathpine and Caboolture.
“The upgraded pump station on Adsett Road, Burpengary and sewer rising main connection to Springfield Drive, Burpengary will push wastewater from about 4,378 new homes in the next 30 years into the wastewater network and through to our treatment plants to be safely treated and returned to the environment,” he said.
“The works also include an upgrade to the gravity wastewater main and pump station on Hercules Road, including 400 metres of new pipe and new maintenance holes. This upgrade will support new developments in Newport, Rothwell, Kippa Ring and Morayfield South,” he said.
“Construction on the first stages of the upgrades began in September 2026 and will run across different work zones until June 2027.”
A gravity wastewater main in Strathpine and wastewater rising mains in Burpengary will also receive upgrades to improve the reliability of the network and reduce the risk of overflows.
“We’re actively planning our projects to cater for the growing population and changing climate and a new overflow structure in Caboolture will help prevent wet weather overflows from impacting the community and environment,” Mr Basterfield said.
Mr Basterfield said low pressure sewer systems, located on private properties in Donnybrook, would also receive enhancements.
“Low pressure sewer systems are generally used in harder-to-service areas that require alternative infrastructure to pump wastewater into the Unitywater network,” he said.
“Our enhancement works include new flushing points and valving to support operations and maintenance to keep the wastewater from these properties flowing smoothly.”
Mr Basterfield said the works formed part of the utility’s $2 billion investment over the next five years to deliver critical water and wastewater infrastructure to support the growing population.
Unitywater’s delivery partner Abergeldie will undertake the works, which are expected to be complete in June 2027.
