FAQs
The Maintenance Hole Renewal Program is needed so we can continue to provide safe, reliable, and efficient wastewater services that support the wellbeing of our community.
Maintenance holes provide access to underground infrastructure so we can safely access pipes to clear blockages and maintain our wastewater systems.
Unitywater will be upgrading maintenance holes that are reaching the end of their useful service life, and/or are assessed to be in poor condition and/or failing to meet performance guidelines. It is expected that all works relating to the program will be complete by mid-2026.
A maintenance hole (sometimes referred to as a manhole) is a round opening in the ground, with a heavy, flat metal cover on top. This is an access point to important underground infrastructure. Maintenance holes are usually found in streets, sidewalks, or grassy areas, and they can sometimes be hidden or buried within private property.

Residents and businesses who are in the vicinity of these works will receive a works notification in their letterbox approximately one month prior to works commencing. Should we need to access your property, a team member from our delivery partner, Downer, will door knock you shortly thereafter to discuss the works.
