Caloundra sewage transport system

  • We have upgraded the Caloundra Sewage Transport System to improve its capacity and efficiency and cater for our growing Sunshine Coast communities.

  • The project enhances the sewerage network’s ability to manage sewage flows from the service areas of Caloundra, Pelican Waters, Little Mountain, Golden Beach and Bellvista.

  • This project includes the longest horizontal directional drill of this size pipe undertaken in Australia.

  • The upgrade involved replacing or upgrading existing infrastructure such as sewage pump stations and sewerage mains.

  • We constructed a new 900 mm diameter sewerage pipeline 2.5 kilometres from the existing sewage pumping station near the corner of Caloundra Road and Pelican Waters Boulevard to Beerburrum Road.

  • The construction involved specialist contractor Pipeline Drillers drilling 1.6 kilometres along the western side of Nicklin Way. This is the longest horizontal direction drill of this size pipe undertaken in this country.

  • Drilling the majority of this pipeline minimised the project’s impact on the environment and the community by reducing disruption to roads, pathways and other public areas. The new pipeline has been connected to existing pipelines and sewage pumping stations which supply the Kawana Sewage Treatment Plant.

In the long term, the new sewer pipeline will deliver a number of benefits to the community in the Caloundra area including:

  • improving the efficiency of the sewerage systems and reducing overall maintenance costs in readiness for projected population growth

  • alleviating the frequency and severity of sewage overflows during extreme wet weather

  • tying in with current major development work in the Caloundra area

  • addressing odour and pipe corrosion issues.

Mountain Creek to Kawana sewage transport system

  • The upgrade of the Mountain Creek to Kawana Sewage Pipeline improves the capacity and efficiency of the sewerage network in the area, catering for future population growth.

  • The installation of a new pipeline along part of Kawana Way increases the capacity of the sewer network between South Buderim, Sippy Downs and Mountain Creek (including the Brightwater development) communities through to the Kawana Sewage Treatment Plant.

  • The construction of the new sewerage pipeline involved the installation of new connections to existing pipelines and sewage pump stations leading to the Kawana Sewage Treatment Plant. The majority of the works were completed by trenchless drilling methods to ensure minimal impact to the community and the environment through reduced disruption to roads, pathways, waterways and other public areas.

In the long term, the new sewer pipeline will deliver a number of benefits to the community including:

  • improving the efficiency of the sewerage systems and reducing overall maintenance costs in readiness for projected population growth

  • alleviating the incidence and severity of sewage overflows during extreme wet weather

  • tying in with current major development work in the Mountain Creek to Kawana areas.
