Be a Local Water Legend

Be a Local Water Legend at Work

At Unitywater we're on a mission to help people see water differently. We believe that we can make a difference for a sustainable future, and we'd love for you to join us.

Let's make a positive impact together by using water wisely, caring for our waterways, loving our loos, thinking at the sink, and spreading the word.

Are you in?

Think at the sink

Putting the wrong things down your sink or drain can block and erode your pipes. This can cause sewage overflows on the inside of your workplace, which can be extremely damaging and expensive to repair.

Allowing the wrong things go down the drain can also impact the larger sewerage network. It causes blockages and overflows at our sewage treatment plants, which we have to clear and dispose of. This dramatically reduces the efficiency of the sewage treatment process, and it increases the overall cost of sewage treatment.

Your business can make a difference towards a sustainable future!

From the production line, to the office, or in the kitchens and bathrooms of a workplace, there are many opportunities to both save water and help our waterways to thrive.

Some tips for saving water and preventing sewerage overflows:

  • Use a sink strainer to prevent food scraps, plastic and fruit stickers from going down the drain
  • Use paper towel to soak up left over cooking oil in pots and pans before washing them, and only turn on the dishwasher when it is full
  • Encourage employees and co-workers to only flush the 3P's - Pee, Poo and (toilet) Paper
  • Sweep outside instead of hosing down

Smart WaterMark has some useful tips for how businesses across specific industries can reduce their water usage.

More about the SEQ water grid

The SEQ Water Grid allows us to move drinking water around our regions. This is important when patchy rainfall leaves some dam levels lower than others.
