The base slab for the reservoir, located on Jacko Place in Morayfield, was poured, along with 44 concrete panels that will be raised vertically and set into place to form the reservoir wall.
Unitywater CEO, Anna Jackson, said 270 cubic metres of reinforced concrete was used for the slab pour, that happened overnight from 2am – 8am.
“That’s equivalent to the foundations for about seven new homes,” Ms Jackson said.
“While a 2am start is unusual, it was technically essential for a concrete pour of this magnitude.
“Commencing construction in the cool, early hours of the morning allows the concrete to cure under ideal conditions, giving the reservoir the strongest possible foundation.”
Ms Jackson said the Pine Valley Water Supply Project also includes more than eight kilometres of connecting water pipelines and two additional 10-megalitre water reservoirs that will be constructed in future.
“We have an important role to play to support growth in South East Queensland and are investing $2 billion in our service region over the next five years to enable new homes,” she said.
Ms Jackson said in the last financial year, Unitywater had issued approval for more than 10,000 new homes and connected 6,969 newly built properties.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor, Peter Flannery, said the project highlighted the important investment in essential services for Moreton Bay.
“Delivery of critical infrastructure for our residents to access safe, reliable water and wastewater services is the key to accelerated local housing supply,” Mayor Flannery said.
“This is a really exciting milestone for City of Moreton Bay with our greenfield sites at Waraba, Morayfield and Narangba now a reality.
“Together, with Unitywater, we are thinking ahead and laying the essential foundations to support the delivery of housing and vibrant communities in City of Moreton Bay.”
The Pine Valley Water Supply Project is being delivered by Unitywater’s capital delivery partner Downer.
Construction began in early 2025 and is on track for completion in mid-2027.
